Splatter Chair

One day my husband and I were driving down an alleyway when we saw this chair on the side of the road. Funny enough I had just had a conversation with him about trying a splatter chair a few days before. The chair had a sign on it saying “The Universe provides freely”…good enough of a sign for me!

Watch the process in this video:

Before:

With the chair in the middle of a large tarp on a sunny day, I first watered down some black paint in a bucket and threw it at the chair. Watering down acrylic paint help it to absorb into the fabric instead of clumping on top.

Then I took multiple watered down bottles of acrylic paint and began to fling/pour it at the chair in random directions.

What a mess! Talk about getting into your work…but totally worth it. For some extra detail I took a spouncer (round sponge) and added some gold circles to the design.

I also painted the legs gold to match the circles. Thankfully because the paint was watered down it soaked into the fabric. Once it was completely dry, like with my painted seat cushion experiment, the chair was completely functional and able to be sat in. The paint does not rub off onto clothing and I found a water proof spray to protect the design.

By far my favorite chair in our house. Would you do this a chair you have? I’d love to see the results! Happy creating 🙂
